While both sides were short a host of players from their previous duel, the visitors still had a potent attack. With the Ward brothers (Cian and Fiachra),  Saran O’Fionnagainan and Niall O’Reilly this was to be the real difference between the sides, with Wolfe Tones having the greater scoring threat in attack on the day.

The Cilles got the opening score of the game through a Cathal Hilliard point. With the score at two points each the visitors then hit a purple patch notching the next 4 points on the scoreboard. After Jack Reynolds 2nd point the visitors struck for a crucial goal with Conor Sheppard palming the ball into the net following a high ball into the square from Cian Ward. Each side managed a further point each, to leave the score at half time 1-7 to 0-4 in favour of the away side.

The second half was to be a game of two half’s with the visitors dominant in the first period racing into a 1-13 to 0-5 lead. This lead was too much for the Seasiders to claw back and despite having the better of the latter period of the half, they could only notch a further 4 points to leave the final score 1-13 to 0-9. The Cilles were reliant on the scores of Jack Reynolds and for Wolfe Tones the experience of Cian Ward in particular was crucial and his free taking was exceptional on the day.
