They say goals win games and that is surely true here. Played on Sunday afternoon in ideal playing conditions, the home side welcomed an unbeaten Skyrne side to Pairc Ui Ris, Piltown. Contrary to the score line this was an even enough game for large periods, however in a crazy 15 minute spell in the 2nd quarter, the Cilles imploded to concede 5 goals to a very strong Skyrne team. The opening exchanges were nip and tuck with the Cilles going two points up, having also kicked a number of wide’s in that initial period. Skyrne with their first meaningful attack were able to open their account with a well taken goal by the excellent Clarke, which left the score at 0-2 to 1-0. In the following period the home side were rocked with the concession of a further four quick fire goals, the last two from former county man O’Rourke. The half time score was 5-6 to 0-7. The 2nd half was a cagey enough affair and the Cilles will rue the three good goal scoring opportunities presented. The second half finished 5pts each, however the Cilles will rue the 2nd quarter period, were the damage was clearly done. Whilst it has been a tough opening to the return to Division 1 football, there are still plenty of positives for the Cilles as they welcome more players back from the treatment room and young lads are getting their first taste of senior football.
