The senior team took to the field in Navan on Tuesday night with a lot of changes from the last team who represented us. Six players made their senior championshup debut. The starting line up was:

A beakey, T O’Hoistin, J McDonnell, A Lynch, C Hilliard,  I mullan, J Kavanagh, D O’Byrne, C O’Byrne, C Kelly, B Brennan, J Reynolds, D Brodigan, D meagher, G Reilly

Navan O’Mahonys hit the first blow of the game with the first point but weren’t allowed to score again easily, causing O’Mahonys shots to go wide on at least 3 occasions. Ben then stepped up and put us on the scoreboard with a fantastic point from the right hand side of the pitch over the hospital end of the pitch. We were on the board and from there it was a pretty evenly matched game.

O’Mahonys looked dangerous at times and the tempo of the game was high speed, with tackles and turnovers a plenty. O’Mahonys went a point ahead and Biggy equalised and then Ben put us up a point and it was 0-3 0-2 to us. Then they equalised and Jack helped us stay with them after some fantastic ball work into him. Scoring 2 points without reply, O’Mahonys went in at half time with a 2 point lead.

O’Mahonys were the first to post a score in the second half. We were then awarded a free for a foul on Darragh B and then Ben pointed it. O’Mahonys then scored 3 points without reply in the next 7 minutes and it wasn’t until Biggy scored again that we stepped back up into it. David O’Byrne hit the next point, and Ciaran took a free to bring the score to 0-11 to 0-8 to O’Mahonys. We were awarded a free in injury time and Ben took it and kicked it into the square and it looked for a couple of seconds like the Cilles magic might prevail and we’d sneak a goal but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. Conor o’byrne got another point for us before the end of the game but it was not our night and it finished 0-12 to  0-9 to Navan O’Mahonys and our championship journey continues on the 13th August in Ratoath at 2.30pm against Blackhall Gaels.
