The old adage that match’s not over til the fat lady sings could not have rung out more clearly as for the second time in this championship campaign the senior team fell to a defeat with the last kick of the game. Tormentor n chief was the legend that was Joe Sheridan who with a swing of the leg put Seneschalstown 1-14 to 1-13 ahead 7 minutes into injury time
This was a rip roaring old style championship game with both sides going hell for leather. The Cilles were first off the mark with a 0-2 to 0-0 lead but were rocked by a Bryan Clarke goal following good work from an in form and classy Joe Sheridan. As ever, we never surrendered and Graham Reilly was unlucky to have a blistering shot canon off the cross bar. Despite pulling it back, and being very much in the game, somehow Seneschalstown went in 1-7 to 0-5 leaders at half time. With much more urgency in the second half the Seaside’s responded in fine style and following a brilliant goal effort from Graham Reilly, the teams were equal. The lead was shared among the teams at least 5 times for the remainder of the match and with the whistle in the referee’s lips it was left to Big Joe to seal our faith with a beautiful effort worthy of winning any game.
It’s all to play for now in the final round as we take on Moynalvey on Saturday 8th September in Skryne whilst Blackhall go head to head with champions Simonstown. We hold a slender advantage over the Kilcloon Batterstown combination in terms of score difference and must at least match Blackhalls result v Simonstown to avoid the play offs
