On Saturday 23rd September next the Dr Crokes GAA Club host the 6th Colm Cooper Invitational Tournament in Lewis Road. This tournament provides us with the opportunity to honour Colm Cooper, one of our, and Kerrys, greatest ever footballers. Add to this the opportunity for the clubs U-13 players to compete with their counterparts from all over the country. Winners in previous years include Corofin Galway, Bishopstown Cork & Sherries Harps Dublin. Teams have previously travelled from Meath, Down, Mayo, Scotland, Dublin, Galway, Clare & Cork to play in the Tournament.
Teams will play in groups to qualify for the Cup and Plate Semi-Finals and Finals.
The tournament trophies and medals are kindly sponsored by the Coffey Family in memory of the late Denis Coffey R.I.P. a former player and officer with Dr Crokes.
Chairman of the organising committee John O’ Shea said, ” Apart from being a memorable occasion for the young players, it is a wonderful day for the club to honour Colm and his family”.
Games commence at 11:40am and the tournament is scheduled to be completed by 6:30pm. The organising committee look forward to another successful tournament and issue an open invitation to everyone to come see the players of the future. Colm says,” I really enjoy these games as the players are very honest and the skill levels seem to improve every year”.
Teams competing this year are, Dr Crokes, Skerries Harps Dublin (holders), Wolfe Tones Clare, Bantry Blues Cork, St Colmcilles Meath, St. James Galway, Kilmurry/Ibrickane Clare & St Finbarrs Cork.
