2016 Movember

Cilles Movember Challenge

Following last year’s huge success, We are delighted to announce that this November, club members and players will be participating in the Movember Challenge in association with The Gary Kelly Support Centre in Drogheda.
Having raised over €18,000 last year, the men on the coast will be changing their faces to grow a mo for the month of November. Whether it is a trucker, connoisseur, wisp or no matter the style or shape of your mo, St Colmcilles are looking for men to get involved this November to raise funds for the Gary Kelly Support Centre and St Colmcilles GAA.

The Gary Kelly Support Centre in Drogheda is a centre which provides counselling, information and psychological support for people affected by cancer and those who care for them free of charge. The annual cost of running this centre is €300,000 which the centre must raise themselves to keep this service available to the people of the North East. Last year over 7000 people used the services. Half of the money raised through St Colmcilles Movemeber challenge will go towards the running cost of The Gary Kelly Centre.

Alan Kelly, St Colmcilles juvenile coach who spear headed the idea last year, is hoping to build on from last year’s event. “It is a great way for men in our club to meet with other members who they may not already know, to have fun in taking part and to help raise awareness of men’s health and wellbeing.” Each participant will be given a sponsorship card and asked to raise whatever amount of money they can.

A number of events will be held in conjunction with the Movember challenge, starting with the launch in the Lime Kiln Julianstown on the 21st October where men will be given the style of their moustache to grow. The Gary Kelly Centre will host an evening with Dr Harry Barry, medical doctor and author who will be speaking on Men’s Health & Wellbeing and local rugby star Niall Ronan will be giving advice on nutrition and diet. There will also be a charity Gaelic match played by the “Mo-bros” who wish to showcase their football talent during the month.
The Hops Bar in the D Hotel Drogheda will be the place to be on Saturday 25th November where our Mo-Bros will be there to showcase their moustaches and a “Night with Sporting Legends” will be held. A panel of national recognise sports stars will be with us on the night to tell us stories of their sporting lives and the event will be MC’d by RTE sports commentator Sean Perry. Local barbers, Southgate Barbers will be there on the night for the great shave off.

Anybody interested in taking part in this event, through sponsorship or in participating are asked to contact Alan Kelly on 087 9612346.
