U19 Football League starting Fri 20th April
Background: Meath GAA will be running an U19 Football League with matches commencing in April. We will have a team taking part. There will NO U18 football in 2018 in County Meath Meath – Minor football is now U17. There is no pressure or expectation on players who are doing their Leaving Cert but they are welcome to train and/or play when able. We will advise in due course about U19 training
This years U19 League is being run with the idea of extra games for players who are in their final year at the U-17 grade and those U-18 and U-19 players (i.e. players born 2001, 2000 and 1999). The League will run on Friday evenings for 5 weeks, commencing on Friday April 20th. It will then take a break prior to the State Examinations before being completed with the knockout stages in late June or July.
The teams in our group are; Donaghmore Ashbourne, Clann Na nGael (Athboy), Dunshaughlin, Simonstown and St Vincent’s/Curraha.
U19 League fixtures for St Colmcilles are as follows:
- Friday April 20th v Donaghmore Ashbourne, 7pm in Piltown. Don Ash unable to fulfil fixture.
- Friday April 27th v Clann na nGael, 7pm in Athboy. CNG won 3-11 to 3-8.
- Wednesday 2nd May 2nd v Dunshaughlin, 7:45pm in Dunshaughlin.
- Friday May 11th v Simonstown, 7:15pm in Simonstown
- Friday May 18th v St Vincent’s/Curraha, 7:15pm in Curraha
The knockout stage with semi-finals & finals will then be played later in June when LC Exams are over.
Please also note the below points from Meath GAA:
1. This completion is for players in who turn 19, 18 or 17 in 2018. No players eligible for the U-16 grade are eligible for this competition.
2. League matches can go ahead without the availability of players who are playing on County sides.
3. No fixture changes will be permitted.
4. In the event of a walkover the team failing to field shall receive a fine with the other side receiving the points.
Adult Football for our 1999 and 2000 year players
All 1999 and 2000 year players are strongly encouraged to train and become part of the Adult Team setup in St Colmcilles. Our intention is to assist and guide the players as they transition from Minor/juvenile football to Adult football. As with U19 team, there is no pressure or expectation on players who are doing their Leaving Cert but they are welcome to train and/or play when able.
Initially there will be 2 adult teams competing during the Spring in the A and B Leagues commencing in January & February. With many players involved on county and college teams, etc there should be good opportunities to get playing in both the Leagues and challenge matches.
Later in April and during the Summer, there will be 3 adult men teams competing at Senior, Junior B and Junior D level – again more details later as the year progresses. The expectation is that there will be 3 adult teams from beginning of 2019 in Spring Leagues and Championship.
Minor U17 Football for 2001 players
Outside of U19 League, the 2001 born players will taking part in the Minor U17 League and Championship. See Minor U17 section for more information.
