Cooney Cup Round 1 News

Whitecross NS 1-19 (20) V Duleek Boys NS 0-4
2017 Cooney Champions signalled their intent for the 2018 season when they put in a scintillating performance against what was a decent Duleek side played in windy St Pats. 7 points a piece from the boot of Will Richardson and the very talented Ryan McBrearty put the Julianstown School on their way.   They were aided by 1-1 from Sean Caldwell and 0-2 each from Michael Timmons and Ronan Quinn. This was a wonderful performance and with conducter and chief McBrearty pulling all the strings, Whitecross could well feel they can become the first school to perhaps target back to back Cooney Cup crowns.
Whitecross NS Scorers: Ryan McBrearty 0-7, Will Richardson 0-7, Sean Caldwell 1-1, Ronan Quinn 0-2, Michael Timmons 0-2
Dulek Boys NS Scorers: Karl Connor 0-1, Sam Heaney 0-1, Adam Cadell 0-1, D Murphy 0-1
Man of The Match – Ryan McBrearty.   No end to this young mans talent and had Whitecross purring from start to finish in great performance

Gaelscoil an Bhradain Feasa 1-11 (12) V St Marys PPS 8-1(9)

Gaelscoil and Bhradain Feasa opened their 2018 Cooney Cup challenge when they took on St Mary’s PPS from Bryanstown.  Playing against a strong win in the first half it was the Bryanstown boys who led at the break 6-0 (6) V 1-1 (2) courtesy of some fine play from Patrick Browne who netted 3 of his sides 6 goals in the opening period, whilst 1-1 came from the boot of Niall Kelly.  The 2nd half saw the game turn on its head as the Gaelscoil slowly but surely cut the deficit.  Scores from the Tadgh McCann-Duff 0-6, Daragh Reddy 0-2, Conor Christie 0-2 had them ahead by 4 with minutes to go before Paddy Browne hit another goal to leave 3 points in the contest at the end.
This was an even match with plenty of skill on show , ruined somewhat by the high wind. However both teams showed plenty to suggest they will be at the knockout stages this season
Gaelscoil Scorers: Tadgh McCann-Duff 0-6, Niall Kelly 1-1, Daragh Reddy 0-2, Conor Christie 0-2
St Marys Scorers: Patrick Browne 4-1, Ali 2-0, Lincoln Dollier 2-0

Man of The Match –  Lincoln Dollier.   On the losing side  but lived up to pre match billing, the towering power house midfielder did not disappoint , kicked two goals  and his range of kick passing was great to watch.

St Pats NS 2-4 (6) V Realt Na Mara 1-13(14)
Realt Na Mara last years beaten Cooney Cup Finalists took on St Pats NS in Round 1 of the Cooney Cup in game 3 in St Pats Stamullen.   The Donacarney School raced into a 0-8 V 0-1 lead at the break, courtesy of Charlie Tunsted, Aidan Clarke and Jake Hoch before some wonderful play from the Brennan’s Oisin and Conor saw them tag on 2 and 3 points respectively to lead by 7 at the break, the solitary St Pats score coming from the boot of Kobe George.  The 2nd half was a more even affair with two scores from Bruno Benoit , Charlie Newton and two more from Kobe George did make a contest of this match .  However Realt Na Mara kept their noses in front and 1-3 from Aidan Clarke, and points from Jake Hoch and Oisin Brennan saw the Donacarney boys take the points and win in the end by 8 points   in what was a keenly contested Round 1 match

St  Pats Scorers:Kobe George 1-2, Bruno Benoit 0-2, Charlie Newton 1-0

Man of The Match –  Aidan Clarke.  Big powerful and talented player.  Made his size count but it was his ability to score that set him apart in great display
