On a crisp April afternoon the development squad for Meath u15s took on Down in St. Pats of Stamullen home pitches which looked like a delight to play upon.
The backbone of the lads involved in the squad come from East Meath with a couple of lads from Duleek, 2 from St. Pats and 9 of our own boys.
There were 2 matches played simultaneously with 3 of our boys; Eoin Gillick, Sean Leonard and David O’Brien on one pitch with the balance of the Cilles crew of Luke Conlon, Danny Ehichoya, Christian Finlay, Cathal Monaghan, Eoin McCloughan and Adrian Kavanagh on the second pitch.
All of our boys started in their respective first matches except Eoin McCloughan and David O’Brien who both played the entire second matches.
On pitch one Meath overpowered Down from the outset and ran home comfortable winners with both Séan and Eoin playing their part as integral members of all that was good for Meath.
On pitch two it was a tighter affair but Meath pulled away at a canter in the second half. Danny, Christian, Adrian, Luke all got on to the scoresheet.
Game two for both sides delivered convincing wins for Meath with Luke scoring a hat trick of goals in his match. Down fell away with Meath’s superior fitness, strength, talent and team play delivering a solid set of results.
To put it into perspective, when James Conlon was asked if he felt a bit of pressure for his place with what he sees coming behind him? He simply said ‘nope, I’m excited with the talent on show, in particular his future Cilles senior teammates!’
Well done to all our boys for representing their club and county with pride.
