The 2018 Junior C championship finalists met once again on a fine sunny evening.  The Reds prevailed, though only just and by the narrowest possible margin.
Red Cilles made the perfect start, working the ball upfield directly from the throw-up and slotting a goal.  After the initial burst the game developed into a fierce contest for possession and territory between well matched teams.  Blue Cilles eventually equalising with a goal from Sheena in the 7th minute.
Again the game resolved into a battle, hard-held possession yielding few scoring opportunities.  Both defenses were dominant until a flurry of scores in the last ten minutes.  The Blues scores came from Aoibhin (1.1), Sheena’s point and captain Ashling with a goal-of-the-season strike that started with Blues full-back Caoimhe H’s snuffing out a Reds attack and initiating a sequence of hand passes that moved the ball the length of the pitch.  The Reds replied with some very fine finishing to score 2.7.  The Blues had a 6-point deficit to overcome in the second half.  We’ve done it before!
Cliodhna and Deanna had come on as subs in the first half (for Hannah and Georgina) and were joined by Alannah, Tara, Kate, Orla, Caoimhe Mc and Caoimhe W – replacing Aoibhin, Eimear, Aoife, Meg, Naoife and Karolina.  Sadbh and Rebecca were introduced for Caitlin and Sabhin in the 10th minute.
The Reds again scored an early goal to extend their lead.  The Blues responded with five consecutive points, 2 from Deanna and 3 from Alannah.  Scores were traded back and forth with the Blues gradually narrowing the gap with further points from Deanna and Alannah and a goal from point blank from Caoimhe W reducing the deficit to a single point.  A tense last minute saw the Reds hold on to secure the win.

Gaeil Colmcille are still firmly in the hunt for a place in the league final.  St Colmcilles will need to win their remaining games to maintain their challenge.
