O’Raghallaighs/Oliver Plunkets 2,3(9) v Colmcilles 4,3(15)

The O’Raghallaighs/ Plunkets welcomed the Colmcilles to the Slane road on an evening perfect for football. The Colmcilles growing in confidence on the back of two consecutive victories made the short trip across county lines for this challenge match.

The Colmcilles were first to score with a goal from their dynamic forward line. Their hosts were quick to respond moving the ball down field for a point. Some great fielding by the half backs and midfield allowed the Colmcilles plenty of scoring opportunities, adding another goal and a point just before the break.

The second quarter saw the Colmcilles continue in the same form. Some quick passing and hard running, resulted a goal and a further point. In defence the Colmcilles were holding firm, restricting the Louth side to a single point.

The second half saw a resurgent O’Raghallaighs/ Plunkets side wrestle back control of the midfield and their efforts were rewarded with a goal and a point. The Colmcilles forward line dug deep and were able to match their opponents on the scoreboard.

Boosted by their third quarter performance the O’Raghallaighs/ Plunkets continued to put it up to the Colmcilles and came away with a goal in the final period. The Colmcilles battled against a resolute O’Raghallaighs/Plunkets defence, but were unable to convert their chances in the final quarter.

The Colmcilles emerged with a well earned victory against an O’Raghallaighs/Plunkets side who are only at the start of their league campaign. Both teams can take away plenty of positives in attack and defence and will relish the promise of a rematch over the summer months.
