Monday night kicked off our ladies second round of the Division 2 league.

Cilles ladies got off to a flying start with the first point shortly after the ball was thrown in. The girls kept the scoreboard ticking over, keeping Navan O’Mahony’s at bay with the help of our keeper Saoirse McPeake. Saorise made a superb save preventing the away side putting a goal past the Cilles. A strike past the keeper from our lively corner forward Sáidhbh Collins and another 2 points ended the first quarter with 1-06 to 0-01.

Navan started the second quarter strongly scoring with a free kick which was followed by a goal for the away side. The Cilles recovered with a point from the outside boot of Tess O’Neill. The half-time whistle blew leaving the sides with 1-08 to 1-02.

Navan again opened the second half with the first score but this didn’t phase Cilles at all. The Cilles counter attacked working the ball out from the backs with the hands delivering it to the forwards which resulted in adding 3 points from Hannah Connell, Sáidhbh Collins and Emma Brophy for the home side.

Going into the last quarter, the home side led with 2-11 to 1-05.

A courageous block from the Cilles full back Dearbhail Ní Oistin resulted in a point instead of a goal for the Navan side. With both sides battling it out till the finish, Cilles ladies took the win in the end finishing it with 3-13 to 1-07. A match well played with lots of positives to go off into next weeks game. Well done girls!
