After some unforeseen issues arising in their league, our u15 boys were finally pitched into battle in the league final against our good friends in Dunboyne GAA club.
The lads were thrilled at the prospect of playing on the grassy swathes of Pairc Tailteann. Given that they had only ever played one other competitive match on a full size pitch, the prospect of Pairc Tailteann’s acreage was somewhat daunting but not to be feared.
The temperature was in the mid 20s with a still breeze blowing towards the hospital. Cilles playing with that wind in the first half opened the scoring with 2 points followed by a goal. 2 points saw Dunboyne come back into the game somewhat, but with some overcooked passes up front and some inconsistent wides, cilles took to the break with a lead of 1.03-0.02.
The second half started with a bang though with a goal for Cilles followed by a couple of points by Dunboyne.
Daylight finally came on the scoreboard when another sweeping move from left corner back to right corner forward delivered a sweet goal.
J Collier kept Dunboyne at bay at vital points and had an outstanding final, not just for his bravery in goal but also for his wonderful kick outs.
Cilles ran out comfortable winners in the end with a final scoreline of 6.06 to 2.07 after sustained pressure from Dunboyne at the wrong end of the pitch.
