On a sunny summer evening in Piltown, the Cilles took on the strong Summerhill in their third championship game, after recently beating them in the league. Though the result went our way, it was by no means an easy win. The ladies knew they would have a battle on their hands and a battle it was. Summerhill started very strong, popping over a point straight from the throw in. But then the cilles got into their stride and over took the opposition, with a notable point taken by Niamb Doggett who covered every blade of grass in Piltown and Cliona Smith making her return known with some beautiful passing. It wasn’t until a goal following a solo run by one of our youngest and strongest, Hannah Connell, that cilles put some distance between them. Following a few frees taken expertly by summerhill’s Jenny Rispin and a few unfortunate wides by the cilles, the first half came to a close with nothing but two points between the teams.
The second half was a closer game from the get go, with goals from both sides- one a penalty for summerhill. Nailbiting stuff, with Ciara Daly and Orla Deegan putting their bodies on the line for their team. With a minute to go, summerhill went ahead. However, the cilles kept their cool and showed great character and the game ended in a draw. Final score 2-10 to 2-10.
