FT St Colmcilles 4.14 Skryne 9.15
HT St Colmcilles 2.6 Skryne 6.7
This Masita Cup game had already been secured by Skryne before a serious injury to Cilles goalkeeper Grainne Reilly ended the match. We all send our best wishes to Grainne for a speedy recovery.
What a game, what a scoreline, what performances from both teams. Cilles were always facing a tough challenge but were never daunted and the mostly young team fought very hard to make a contest of the game until the final whistle.
I’m looking at the stats app while writing this and it starts Skryne point, Cilles point, Skryne point, Cilles point, Skryne point, goal, point, Cilles point, goal, goal, point – the very essence of a real ding dong battle.up to the 20th minute. Skryne’s classy midfield and half-forward line eventually stamped their authority and drove their team on with 5.3 scored to Cilles 2 points to close out the half.
Cilles made their first substitutions in the second hale, bringing in Grainne Reilly, Deanna McGowan, Aoife Hall and Caoimhe Horan. Skryne had established a commanding lead but were pushed hard in the second half. Cilles county underage player Alannah Boland scored two goals in 5 minutes to counter the 3 early points from Skryne.
Cilles continued to press for scores and Skryne matched the effort all around the pitch and this ultimately proved to be the winning of the game.
The high points – Cilles got to test a number of new players in new positions and will look forward the the next round in the shield. For Skryne – they have to fear none of the remaining teams in the cup draw,
