Royals emerge with one point win from terrific contest
Meath LGFA Intermediate Championship,Wednesday 8th May 2019
FT St Colmcilles A  1.8  Royal Gaels 0.12
HT St Colmcilles A  0.2  Royal Gaels 0.7
A hugely entertaining contest on a cold evening launched the 2019 Intermediate Championship in Piltown.  Royal Gaels were quickly into the game and proceeded to score the first five points.  A lengthy stoppage for an injury to Niamh O’Callaghan, who was replaced by Orla Deegan, allowed Cilles to regroup.  The home pressure eventually yielding two points for Aishling Dyer and Cliona Smith.  Gaels replied with the last two points of the first half and Cilles were looking at a daunting task to get back into the contest in the second half.
Cilles introduced Laura Sheehan and Ellie Brodigan for their Cilles senior debuts, and set about closing the gap on the Royals.  Cilles harried and chased all around the pitch and chipped away at the Royals lead.   Stout defending limited scores but a sweeping Cilles move from back to front resulted in a goal for Ashling Dyer in the 12th minute.  Cilles introduced Alannah Boland for the last quarter and despite outscoring the Royals by four points were still one point down when the ref ended the match.
Royal Gaels were deserving winners but Cilles will reflect on a good performance and a very near miss.
