St Colmcilles overcame the very tern challenge of St Michaels in the rearranged rd2 All County A League Division 2 match on Friday night
This was the Carlanstown outfits first defeat after 9 rounds of the A league and with 4 rounds to go sees the Cilles move in the promotion places currently sitting third behind St Michaels and Ratoath.
On a beautiful evening for football it was centre back Eoin Woods who kept the Cilles narrowly ahead in the first quarter hitting two points to keep our noses in front 0-10 to 0-7 at half time. The second half got off to a flier with captain Ben Brennan hitting the net in the early stages and opening a 1-10 to 0-7 leaf. However St Michaels showed the character that has them top of the league pulling it back to 1-10 each mid-way into the second half before Cathal Hilliard and then a second goal from Ben Brennan gave us some breathing space. Ciaran Kelly came on at the end to apply the finishing touch to a sweeping move to seal a crucial 2014 to 1-13 win for the Seasiders.
There are no easy games in this league and Round 10 sees us travel to face an excellent Curraha side as the league gathers pace and moves to a conclusion
Best wishes to the B League team who make the long journey to Nobber on Thursday night for a 8pm throw in where a win is a must to keep us in the promotion hunt
