Meath LGFA Junior C Championship Round 1 – St Colmcilles B vs Seneschalstown B.
St Colmcilles dominated this encounter from the get go with early scores from Lauren Collier (1.2), Laura Sheahan (1.0.) and Tess O’Neill (1.1) after some excellent forward play.

The St. Colmcilles midfield pairing of Sabhín O’Sullivan and Aisling Haigney provided quality ball into their forward lines which in turn kept the scoreboard ticking over in favour of the home side with further points from Karolina Slionskyte, Sheena Carroll and Sabhín O’Sullivan.

Seneschalstown, however, responded with points of their own before capitalising on a penalty kick which left it 3-11 to 1-3 to the cilles at half time.

In the second half, Seneschalstown began to close the sea-siders lead with 2 quick frees before strong running from Tess O’Neill and quick passing upfront resulted in captain Tori Armstrong burying the ball into the back of the net from a difficult angle. Further points from Cliodhna Cairns, Sheena Carroll and sharp shooter Tess O’Neill who displayed a woman of the match performance, supplied cilles with a comfortable lead early into the second half.

Seneschalstown never gave up and with well worked movements upfront found themselves in the penalty spot on two more occasions, reducing the deficit drastically from what it once was. Strong kicking from goal-keeper Ciara Kilcoyne, meant that the cilles dominated possession when breaking out from the back aiding to the over-all performance of the team. Solid defence displays from Tara Monahan, Tara Shortt and Caoimhe Walsh ensured that Cilles weren’t going to walk away from the game without a win.

The game ended in a 6-point victory for the Cilles, with a final score of 4.16 to 4.10. The Cilles ladies will have a well-deserved break as they have a BYE in round two of the championship, whilst Seneschalstown play Rathkenny/Slane.
