Premier Championship Division 3 Group B

St Colmcilles 1-11   Dunsany  2-06

On a wonderful evening for football in a resplendent Piltown, St Colmcilles hosted Dunsany in Round 2 of the championship with both teams having drawn their opening matches. In the end the Cilles eked out a slender victory over a battling Dunsany side.

Playing into the graveyard end, Dunsany opened the scoring with two well taken points. Settling into their task the Cilles responded with points from Ewan Coughlan, from a free, Ben Wilde from play and a great goal from Ferdia Quigley to have the Cilles leading by a goal with eight minutes gone on the clock. Dunsany roared back with a goal of their own to level things. The final score before the water break was another free from Ewan. Following the break, another Ewan free put the Cilles two points up. A black card saw a Cilles defender in the sinbin for 10 minutes which put a pep in the step of the Dunsany lads.

By the 27th minute Dunsany had levelled the game for the third time with three points in response to a Cilles score coming from play from Ross Molloy.  Eanna Walsh from a free restored the Cilles lead to have the half time score Colmcilles 1-06: Dunsany 1-05.

Dunsany retained their numerical advantage for the first three minutes of the second half and made the most of it with a well taken goal that put them two points ahead. The Cilles upped their game and responded with points from Adam McCabe and Ferdia to level things again. During this period Dunsany were, reduced to 14 with a black card. Three additional points for Eanna and Ewan (2) gave the Cilles a lead going into the water break. The period following the break only yielded one point to Dunsany when both team were going all out to get the win.

In the end the Cilles prevailed by two points on what was a very hot night with panels being well tested. Final score Colmcilles 1-11: Dunsany 2-06.  In what was a tight championship game the young Cilles team displayed a great fighting spirit that will be needed as they go to Donaghmore/Ashbourne in their final group match in two weeks time.
