St Colmcilles 0-14 : 3-15 Moynalvey
Played in excellent conditions at Dunshaughlin on the evening of Sunday 29th July 2018, this eagerly awaited Round 3 Senior Championship encounter pitted the unbeaten Cilles against Moynalvey, whom were seeking their first championship win in this year’s campaign. It was Moynalvey whom deservedly came away with the spoils on the day. The Cilles were left to rue
a period of five minutes were they conceded three goals early in the first half, with the excellent David McLoughlin finding the net twice, and the other major coming from Shane Lenehan. The Cilles had the better of the opening exchanges in this match racing into an early three point lead, 0-3 to 0-0 with points from James Conlan, Cathal Hilliard and Graham Reilly. Then came Moynalvey’s purple patch were they stunned the Seasiders with a three goal salvo to leave the score 0-4 to 3-0 after some seven minutes, with the Cilles other point coming from the boot of David O’Byrne.
The sides exchanged points for the remainder of the half with the gap closing to 6points at half time with the score at 0-9 to 3-6. The second half was a cagey enough affair; however the Cilles could not get the scores needed to close the gap. Upon referee David Coldrick’s final whistle the score read 3-15 to 0-14 to Moynalvey. The Cilles will rue the concession of those three early goals for Moynalvey, as they were really the difference on the day.
The Cilles will hope to get their absent and injured players back and with two games remaining all is very much still to play for. Up next for Cilles is a meeting with neighbours St Patricks.
