Where to begin? A revitalised Skryne side in full flight and a hardened St Colmcilles performance with no place for the workshy?

A game that had more in common with the now fashionable iron-man events than minor football was played out on Tuesday night (24th Sept 2019) in very difficult conditions under lights in Tara. The slippy pitch presenting a huge challenge prior to any contest. Referee Joseph Curran was kept busy all night, seeing fit to add 12 minutes to the second period for stoppages, such was the physical nature of the contest. With little quarter given by both sides, the Carlanstown man acquitted himself well however fraught the game became, proceedings never getting beyond his control.

The Tara boys started strongest with the returning Niall Finnerty leading their charges to a low scoring 5 points to 6 points deficit at the break. The score-line not fully representative of the intense nature of the half, the Cilles lads despite not firing, were still well in the game.

The second period saw Skryne throw everything at St Colmcilles and early. St Colmcilles railed against the challenge raised and saw that work rate was further increased. A collective refusal to give-in, by the entire group was all very apparent throughout the entire second period. Once again the physical stakes were raised by the Tara boys and St Colmcilles were not found wanting in their response.

Towards the latter stages of the second period St Colmcille’s work rate excelled. The belief and hard work shown again now a permanent constituent of this tightly knit group.
