“The greatest performance of any club team this year” – the words of Chairman, Keith Loughman to the U13 Roinn I lads in the aftermath of a dramatic 5-10 to 4-11 win saw the young Seasiders top U13 Group  I and with that hand Navan Mahony’s a first reversal of the year.

Having suffered a heavy defeat to the Hoops in Brews Hill just a few weeks ago this was a game of the ages, and like the Irish Sea in the background, it ebbed and flowed dramatically throughout.  However the young Cilles were determined that today was going to be their day.  At Half Time the inspired home side led 1-4 to 1-2, Sean Wyley toe poking to the net for a deserved lead.  The 3rd quarter swung dramatically with sides matching each other score for score but it was honours to the Hoops at that stage Cilles 3-6 to NOM 3-7 at the whistle –  Diarmuid Loughman and Ciaran Grant after a sweeping move with the majors for the Cilles in that dramatic quarter.  All seemed lost as the Navan boys stretched the lead to 5 points with time almost up but the never say die spirit came to the fore with Fionn O’Grady and Se Downey goaling in a dramatic finale to spark the celebrations.

On a great day there were heroes all over and to namecheck any player would be belie a true squad effort where every single member contributed the inches that were ultimately the difference.  Superbly managed on the day by Mark Gallagher and Jason Collier (John’s brother), this squad epitomised all that is good about our club, its players and values.  Good luck to the boys now in the semi final on a date and opposition to be confirmed.  One to remember!
