In recent years hurling has started to take a foothold in East Meath. Saint Colmcilles and Saint Patrick’s both have thriving academies for boys and girls and compete regularly in Meath Go-Games and the exciting Gormanston Indoor League.

When it comes to county Championship both Clubs come together to compete as “The Saints”. In 2021 we will be fielding teams at U13, U15 and Minor level, this is a massive step forward for the small ball on the The Gold Coast. The Saints also cater for anyone interested in hurling from all other local clubs and have had players from Ardcath and Duleek line out for the U13’s. In 2021 we also hope to have a Camogie Saints team competing in the Meath Championship.
Over the years The Saints have achieved many milestones, First wins, Shield Finals, Summer League Finals, Championship semi-finals and Leinster League Winners. In 2020 we got our first Major when The U13 Saints went through the season unbeaten. It was topped off with victory in Meath Roinn B championship with a 6-8 to 3-6 win over Kilmessan. As a result The Saints will now play Division 1 hurling when they get to U15’s in 2022.
The 2020 U13’s are a microcosm of how the The Saints have gelled as a team, many players on both team also won honors in 2020 for football for their respective clubs. They compete hard against each other with the big ball, but when it comes to hurling the team bond is unbreakable. Take the Hutchinsons and the Wades, 5 Hurlers, 4 footballers, playing for a combination of 14 different teams across two football clubs and The Saints.
We are hopeful of getting back out on the pitch shortly, in the interim we have been busy training via Zoom at 4:30am every Friday (Sliotar, Hurl, Rebounder or Wall). We are busy planning our training schedule for 2021 with training slots tentatively pencilled in. Both clubs academies are expected to take place on Monday evenings at 7pm in Piltown for Cilles and Stamullen for Pat’s. U13’s typically training on Wednesday at 7pm in Stamullen, U15’s Monday Piltown 8pm and Wednesday Stamullen 8pm and Minor’s to be confirmed. Camogie training times to follow.
